There are places right here in the United States that offer scuba dive thrills for the novice diver to the most adept diver. North Carolina boasts one of the best places in the world to see a myriad of shipwrecks along with large marine animals. North Carolina also has 300 miles of shore line and in the spring and summer over half of the southern shore line is warmed by the Gulf Stream waters with visibility up to 100 feet. A warm water scuba dive is a treat for a scuba diver from Middle America being able to leave the 3mm wetsuit at home. There are shipwrecks for every level of diver from the novice divers to the most adept divers. For the novice diver or recreational diver there are over a hundred known shipwrecks that are readily accessible.

The northern shore line has cold water dives that require a full wetsuit with a hood. In this colder water just outside of the Oregon Inlet in just 65 feet of water are the Zane Grey and Dionysus that were sunk as part of an artificial reef. Down south in the warmer waters there are charter boats out of Morehead City and as far south as Wilmington with a whole host of shallow water dives.

There are the W.E. Hutton that was sunk by a torpedo in 1942 and the Suloide that hit the Hutton and sunk just a little over a mile away, both at depths of 65 to 75 feet. The reality of a scuba dive at a shipwreck site would make video games pale in comparison in the minds of children.
