I need to know how much weight should I carry on me. I am 13, I weigh about 135 pounds, and live in the florida keys. The water is warm. I rarely wear a wetsuit. When I do it is a 3 mm shorty. It’s difficult to say, weights are only intended to offset the positive buoyancy of your body and wetsuit on the surface. A 3mm shorty does not add a great deal of buoyancy, so much depends on your personal buoyancy characteristics. You say you weigh 135 lbs but that doesn’t say anything about your body type…or more specifically, your body volume – since that will determine how much water you will displace when submerged. The more volume you displace, the more weight you will need.
All that said and going simply based on your weight, if I was diving with you I would start you at 5 or 6 pounds and adjust (either up or down) from there as necessary. A pre-dive buoyancy check would help determine what that starting point should be, with a couple of pounds extra to allow for the additional buoyancy of the tank as it nears empty.
FYI…I think you meant an 80 cubic foot tank, not an 80 cc (cubic centimeter) tank.

In today’s economy yes there are boats available in your price range. Most likely a 70′s- 80′s era boat that will need a little TLC, but they are all over the place. Some marinas don’t like live-aboards, but some tolerate us. There are 2 in my area that are in the $15K price range, that would be very livable with a few $1000 in upgrades. I live on a boat in the Inter Harbor of Baltimore. I pay less than $3000 a year for slip and utilities. Insurance is $400 a year. So, the issue is how much will a boat cost. AND, how livable can you make it. Your lack of boating experience can be overcome, but it will take some work on your part.
I know what College cost these days and even if renting off campus it’s expensive. In the end you don’t own where you where renting. At least if you make a good decision on which boat to buy, it will not lose much, if any value in 4 years, so that’s a plus.

Many states do not allow the harvesting of “game fish” with spear. Carp are fair game in most. Check local laws carefully. As for equipment, I found the three prong “paralyzer” tip works best for small to medium fish. For large fish, I switched over to a detachable single point with a cable that allowed it to pull free of the head yet remain attached by cable so the fish would not bend or destroy the pole spear while struggling. Same set up I use on my large spear gun.

i am planning on buying a spear gun and using it in the Mediterranean this summer. what do i need to know about spear guns (i know nothing, not even how they work, if the spears are tied to a string to retrieve etc.). do i need to have a special salt water spear gun? whats a good simple gun to start out with for cheap? gimme some pointers if you know!
Ok well since you are a beginner I would start out with something like a pole spear. Its not a gun its just a shaft with a sharp end. looks something like this:
A speargun uses rubber bands that are stretched to slot into a notch on the spear shaft and launch the spear when the trigger is pulled. The force of the spear all depends on the resistance and number of bands you have. Something like the JBL carbine like I showed above is small and easy to use. Its simple and very straight forward. Just make sure you check all the local regulations before you go out and start shooting fish.
