I’ve just started surfing and love it. I’ve had to hire Wetsuits because I don’t regularly use one for swimming (hate them because they don’t fit right) and a wetsuit that gets over my bust is huge everywhere else. I’m 36F-29-39 and there’s no point in just getting a large size as the water really gets in and makes it freezing. Is custom my only option or are there any suits designed for women with big busts?

As you descend while diving visible light is absorbed at different depths. Why does purple go before blue?
I am looking for the relative depths that each color is lost as you descend underwater, though i know the exact depth changes in different conditions. I understand why red is absorbed first then orange and so on but i have seen several times that purple is lost around the same time as green. Is this true does purple disappear before blue and if so why?
When light travels thru water it absorbs and scatters wavelength, the deeper you go the more and more light is being absorbed by the water. Red has the longer wavelength and less energy, while blue has a shorter wavelength, higher frequency, and more energy, thus better water penetration. That being said, violet and indigo have such high energy that they are scattered and reflected at the surface of the water rather than penetrating like blue. So you are correct that violet dissapears before blue. NOAA has a great graph that shows the relative loss of visible light in both ocean and coastal waters. I’ve noticed loss of at shallower depths than they show, but I dive commercially in the Gulf of Mexico, and I imagine that the water quality has something to do with that.

I am enrolled in the open water course currently and am wondering on how much my next class will cost. I want to know from experience. I am going to a Padi local dive center in Michigan. As a ROUGH idea (it’ll vary greatly from centre to centre), you’re looking at Advanced being US$250, Rescue Diver US$325, and DiveMaster around US$600. The prices I have, however, include books and rental gear for the duration of the course.
As to your equipment – that’s even more of a variation! If you’re buying from the centre you’re working for, I’d have though that they’ll be the best place to give you a price!

Sidemount Scuba Diving Regulator Set Up for Mixed Teams
I want to go snorkeling in the ocean. The water there is pretty cold (wetsuit cold). I want to rent a wet suit, glove, and bootie so then I don’t get cold. I have the right kind of fins (scuba fins), snorkel, and mask. Can I rent equipment without a certification card?
You should be able to. That is unless the shop misunderstands that the scuba certification card is intended to restrict life support equipment.
You can minimize the potential for miscommunication by requesting rental of “snorkeling equipment,” not scuba equipment.
Note that with a wetsuit on, you’ll be much more buoyant than you’re used to. If you intend to snorkel underwater, you might want a weight belt too with just enough weight so that you float vertically between eye and nose level with a partial breath hold.

Taking Your Scuba Certification Further  by Dennis Miralda
For many being a trained, licensed and certified Scuba Diver, is a water lover’s dream come true. Scuba Diving becomes more than just a hobby for a lot of people, or at least they wish it could be more, and many people want to know what they can do to expand their scuba certification into a career. Not just any career either, but one that pays well too.
The first step to taking your scuba certification further is to take additional dive classes that will allow you greater flexibility with your new found passion. Different levels of dive classes include advanced diver training, dive master courses and becoming an Naui certified instructor. As a Dive Master you may be hired by a local Dive Shop to r lead dive expeditions.
Being in a position to lead others on a scuba excursion in an open water dive is a lot of responsibility that should not be taken lightly. While you want your group scuba divers to have fun, you also want them to have the sense of security and be sure that they have a professional diver in charge of the situation and leading their group. This is a big step in a certified diver’s career, leading a dive excursion and you should be certain that you have completed both the advanced diver training and Dive Master training as well as being completely first aid/CPR certified too.
Some excellent tips on spreading your new found dive excursion leader talents around are to rely on traditional PR. Just being a dive instructor or dive master doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be able to make a business out of it. You have to sell yourself and promote your Dive Store every chance you get. Always take the time to introduce yourself to each person individually and ask their name. Get to know each person in your class and even people who just call in interest. Ask them why they are interested in dive classes and offer ways they can get more from the class for their purpose. As with anything in life, making eye contact when speaking to the divers and remembering simple things like their names and goals will go a long way and generate a lot of buzz about your level of expertise and dive instruction or excursion abilities.
By taking the time to have a conversation with each of the divers in the group, you will be able to distinguish which of them has the needed confidence as a diver and which you should pay more attention. This is important whether you are teaching dive classes as an NAUI certified instructor or acting as Dive Master on a dive excursion. If you truly want to make a career out of your passion of scuba diving, then you need to be professional and courteous at all times. It pays to keep the classes on track and informative as well.
In order to become a top level NAUI instructor or Dive master you must complete the rescue diver training and advanced diver training. These dive classes include a lot of open water dive training hours. There is also a classroom portion that must be completed.
Scuba Diving is definitely for adventure lovers, but it is a serious responsibility as well. If you want to take your dive certification and turn it into your career, the first step is investing in additional dive classes to obtain all the required certification. After that you will likely have to work for a few years to earn the money to have your own Dive Equipment. From there, once you are up and ready to roll, your public relations and interactions are going to be what keep your dive business afloat. Scuba diving is a lifestyle you are sure to enjoy if you take the right steps towards success!

I’m 13 years old and I live in Winnipeg, MB. I really want to try a new sport and I was thinking diving. But if I have no experience with it, I will have to go into a beginners program which is for people who are 7 and up. Does that mean that I have to be taking lessons with 7 year old’s?
Maybe, but don’t worry about it. There might be seven year olds in the class but most likely not everyone will be that young and there might be a few people your age too. Also at 13 you will most likely progress faster than the younger kids not only because you have better focus and take direction better but also because you have more strength and weight to be able to push down the board and get a better jump, which makes preforming the dives easier.

im doing a triathlon and i have no idea what to wear under my wetsuit… is it more comfortable just to wear a swim suit or bike shorts and a tank top??? i dont want to get chafing while im on the bike… please help!
it is sorta a personal preferance. Its what ever you are most comfortable in. When I did my triathlon I wore my swim suite and shorts. I brought a tank top but I didnt end up wearing it because I was all wet from swimming. Its kinda nice to wear just your suite too because they usally give you water when you are running that you can poor on your self. when you are running and biking in the race what you are wearing is the last thing you think about pretty much.
