I am going to Sharm in May for Scuba Diving. Most of the diving school they charge a certificate fee for €35. What is it? I tried to ask them, the only thing I knew was that the fee is payable to the school. They said I have to send the form back to PADI HQ to get the card, is there any charge applying the card?
The school really ought to send the form (or PIC as it is called) off to PADI on your behalf but it is most times easier for them to complete their details and pass it to you as you have details to fill in and you need to provide a passport sized photo too (it gets slotted into a plastic window on the form). The money you pay the school effectively gets paid back to PADI as the school have to buy the PIC from them in the first place – it is a round-a-bout way of covering the cost of the admin of adding you to the PADI database and providing you with your qualification card.
The qualification card is similar in look to a credit card (size, made of plastic etc) but it just has your qualification details on the reverse, with your picture, and a nice picture on the front. You use it to book dives, hire kit etc when you need to.

The scuba diving equipment commonly includes tanks of compressed air. Additionally, other equipments that you may need include the tubes, a regulator, and a mouthpiece needed to move the air existing in the tanks into the body of the diver.

Most divers wear Wetsuits to protect them from the low temperature of the water far underneath the surface.

The divers generally wear flippers on their feet to help them maneuver through the water. These flippers will help them go farther and faster. Scuba boots are best for keeping the feet warm and safe when under water.

It is evident that a wetsuit is rather different to any other type of clothing and as such needs a different method to put it on. Should you be about to embark on your first surfing experience and require a wetsuit, take a look at our online surf shop at Hansensurf.com and find an ideal one. Alternatively, if you just need some advice on wearing a wetsuit, then Hansensurf has the following tips for you.
Take your wetsuit and ensure it’s not turned inside out and that the zipper is at the back. This is a standard mistake – zipper goes in the back, not in the front. The one exception are some “zipperless Wetsuits” that also have a very very short zipper on the chest that opens a hole through which you squeeze into your wetsuit.
Extend your feet so they slide easier into the wetsuit legs and slide your legs, one at the time into the wetsuit.
Now pull the wetsuit all the way up to your waist. Adjust it so the wetsuit knee is on your knee, wetsuit crotch is on your crotch etc there should be no big wrinkles. This will make it so much easier to get it up over the top half of your body. You might start to feel that your wetsuit is too tight and maybe even too small but you will find this is only because the bulk of the suit is bunched up below your waist.
Pull the wetsuit up and put one of your arms all the way into a sleeve.
Pull the neoprene so your armpit and shoulder fit where they should.
Put in the other arm and then straighten and adjust the neoprene so that it is all in right place.
Straighten the flap under the zipper so that it does not get stuck in the zipper.
Use the cord that is attached to the zipper slider to close the zipper. This is most easily done by pulling it over your shoulder.
Close the neck panel with the velcro fastening provided and voila, you’re done!
People always imagine that their wetsuit is too small when they try it for the first time. The reason for this is that your suit should in reality be snug and even a little tight. This prevents water from getting into a wetsuit. If you might choose a nice and comfy wetsuit that you almost can’t feel on you it would be too big. It would stretch even more in the water as neoprene gets looser when wet and you would be swimming in your wetsuit. So it takes some time to get used to how to put on a wetsuit.
In conclusion, it’s essential to keep two things in mind – One, make sure all parts of the wetsuit are in place, otherwise you will surely have excess neoprene in some parts and a too tight feeling in others and you will feel like your wetsuit is too small. Two, your wetsuit should be tight and snug to keep you warm in the water.
Visit Hansensurf.com for more information on wetsuits and find one which is best for you.

At their core, Wetsuits are simply items of clothing designed to keep the water out and the heat in. Unlike the air, being in water can cause heat to leave the body 25 times faster than simply walking around outside in colder weather can. Wetsuits work by trapping a thin layer of water against the skin which is easier for the body to warm up than the surrounding water.
This is done by using a thick, spongy material which aims to limit the amount of water that enters the suit. Water actually does enter the wetsuit, as it is designed to do, though there is little mixing between the water outside and inside the wetsuit. Due to this, most wetsuits have something called a “closed cell” construction which means that water cannot enter through anywhere on the suit other than through the zipper and leg and arm openings.
Although wetsuits can vary in cost, the most expensive one is not necessarily the right choice. When purchasing a wetsuit there are only three things to look for:
1) the right thickness for the wetsuit; 2) the ability of the wetsuit to provide the correct amount of coverage for the body; and 3) the right fit between the wetsuit and the person who plans on wearing it.
There are many different types of activities that wetsuits can be used for and, because of this, there are many different types of wetsuits. After all, using a wetsuit designed for cold water in warm water would not provide the same amount of protection as it would if it were used in the proper water temperature.
Wetsuit tops, also known as rash guards, are basically long sleeve shirts made out of wetsuit material. They’re designed for regular movement during warm water activities like surfing or wake boarding. They don’t offer much insulation or coverage but they can still protect against the sun, chafing, and the ever present jellyfish threat.
Springsuits, also known as shorties, are a one piece wetsuit that combines a short-sleeve top with bottoms attached. Generally, they aren’t particularly thick but they do provide better insulation than the rash vest does.
There are several other types of wetsuits better suited for cold water activities such as the summer and winter wetsuits.
When choosing a wetsuit, it is important to understand the idea of thickness. The thickness of a wetsuit would operate much the way the thickness of a coat would and deciding how thick a wetsuit would be required is similar to deciding which coat to wear depending on the temperature and activities that are planned for the day.
Wetsuits are designed for waters from 45 to 85 degrees, anything colder generally requires a dry suit. Wetsuit thicknesses are usually referred to “3/2 mm” where the “3″ would refer to the neoprene thickness on the torso and the “2″ would be around the arms and legs.
Much like any other item of clothing, wetsuits come with accessories to help with more specific types of water activities.
Hoods will prevent the much needed 30% body heat that escapes from the head from escaping. Gloves don’t just keep the hands from becoming cold and useless, they also protect from injuries and abrasions. Booties aren’t just for divers who use Scuba fins to protect their feet, they are also nice to keep the feet insulated against the cold. Vests, which are worn for extra cover only, can be used as either another layer underneath a wetsuit or as another way to protect against the sun.

Which one of the following statements about blue-footed boobies is false?
The webbed feet of boobies make great flippers to propel them through the water.
The booby’s body and bill are streamlined, reducing friction when it dives.
A gland at the base of the tail secretes an oil that helps make the body waterproof.
A gland in the bird’s eye socket accumulates salt from body fluids, helping to keep the salt levels in the bird’s body from reaching dangerous levels.
The large flat feet of boobies help them easily walk over the rough surface of the shoreline.

International Diving Career Institute at Hall’s
http://www.hallsdiving.com/career2/index1.htm
what kind of jobs can you expect to find upon completion? How much will I make? Or is it just really expensive Scuba lessons
I’m not a fan of these “fast track” types of instruction. Yes…that school is a legit one. I see it advertised often in Scuba Diving magazine. Would I recommend a school like that for someone wanting to become a DM or Instructor? Nope.
I think you need to do a little more digging and asking divers at local shops about your career choice. If you think you’ll be rich…you need to reassess your career choice. Most DM’s and Instructors earn just enough to make ends meet and may work for several outfits at the same time. How much that will be all depends on where you’re doing it. A lot also depends on what you are bringing to the table. If you don’t have a second language…well…that’s too bad. You’ve just taken a pay hit as well as a hit on options on where to work. Have any hospitality industry experience or courses such as believe it or not…hotel management? That’s actually an attractive option for potential employers. If you have it, it makes you more marketable.
Bottom line is find out where you’d like to work and what’s required at that particular destination and employer. Then get those credentials.

Hi guys. I am looking for a gear bag for my scuba diving equipment. I am told duffles are great for storing gear. What’s a good size and any brands you can recommend?
Thanks.
Yeah, you can use duffles or hockey bags. A lot of the hockey bags out these days are wheeled which is a bonus. If you go this route, you’ll probably want to buy a reg bag as well to protect them in those types of bags.
Personally, I use this: http://www.armorbags.com/wheeledbags.htm
It’s #89, the Traveler. It’s a proper gear bag that has it’s own reg section and pockets for fins inside. Can be hauled as a back pack, carried or wheeled. They’re pricey though. I spent 250 bucks on it but they are tough and protect your gear far better than a duffle or hockey bag.
