Scuba Diving Equipment – Picking The Best Wetsuit For Your Needs by Edwin Thormon
Picking out the proper scuba diving equipment is very important; as far as the wetsuit goes, that is arguably the MOST important piece of scuba diving gear that you will need. So with that being said and done, you will definitely want to buy the right wetsuit for your diving needs. But not to worry, just as long as you take into consideration the important factors of picking a wetsuit, you will be fine.
First of all, the conditions of the water you will be Diving In are certainly a factor. For example, the temperature of the water that you will be scuba diving in for the most part, will determine how thick of a wetsuit that you should buy. Likewise, depending on the water you will be scuba diving in, you may have to buy a thinner wetsuit, as this has its benefits as well.
This is pretty simple to figure out though; the colder the water you will be diving in, the thicker the wetsuit should be. Likewise, for diving in warmer water, you will want to use a thinner wetsuit. Note: if you plan on taking Scuba Diving Lessons or scuba Diving Courses, then you can have your instructor help you pick out a wetsuit.
Also, the other important thing to consider when purchasing your scuba diving gear, is that you will want to go with a wetsuit that is a good fit on your body. Basically you want the wetsuit to be pretty tight, as this will allow less water to get in. The more water you can keep out, the higher your body temperature will stay, since even warm water will lower your body temperature if it comes in contact with your skin.
While the price of the wetsuit you choose should be a factor, it is not recommended that you go cheap on this piece of scuba diving gear, as it is a critically important component. While it may be tempting to buy a cheaper scuba wetsuit, you will probably end up wanting something better later on down the road, so it is probably best to just buy one of good quality to begin with.

How many of you couples who are dating or married find that Scuba Diving together is romantic ?
I mean I’ve went diving with my girlfriend before and the look in my girlfriend’s eyes when she was wearing the mask that covered her eyes and the sight of the regulator in her mouth is just so cute. I mean it was very romantic and she just holded my hand the whole time when we were diving together. She and I were in swimming attire like i wore shorts and she wore a bikini, we decided to not use a wetsuit
I think so. I had my scuba certification when we got married and my husband didn’t. It’s something we can do together plus you are seeing all these neat things. It helps with communication since you can’t talk–you have to just “understand” each other. Plus of course any activity that gets you in a bathing suit is great.

How does a wetsuit work? A wetsuit is a rather simple concept, but they are well worth investing in if you do a lot of swimming in waters that are cool. Some people can put up with the cool water easily, whilst others find it too uncomfortable. A Wetsuit is made of a product known as neoprene, and is like a suit that covers the bulk of your body. Spearfishing Wetsuits vary in type, thickness and size considerably, which is something that you need to think about. However, a wetsuit works in the same fashion regardless of how thick it is, or what type it is. There are two different types of wet suits. One is known as open cell and the other is known as closed cell.
An open cell wetsuit allows water to flow through the pores of the suit and the water gets trapped in between the suit and the person using it. This water warms up over time and as a result your body is able to keep warm. A closed cell wetsuit however, needs to be wet before you put it on as it is too sticky otherwise. These do not allow any water to flow through the suit, and as a result rely entirely on the process of keeping the cooler water away from your body. In general a closed cell wetsuit will be much warmer than an open cell wetsuit of the same thickness. Many people who spearfish prefer the closed cell wetsuits because a 3mm one is equivalent to a 5mm open cell wetsuit. What this means is that you are able to move around with greater ease, which is vital when you are spear fishing.
The only other suit that is quite commonly used for swimming in is known as a dry suit. In many ways these resemble a giant plastic bag that has rubber seals on every hole into the wetsuit. You can wear clothes under these as they keep you completely dry. However, they are extremely expensive to wear and have other problems which remove the potential for snorkelers and those that spearfish from using them. A Blue Water Hunter usually wears a blue camouflage wetsuit.

What is the best wetsuit on the market for surfing in southern california in the winter?
These days, it’s tough to go wrong.
Just to start out with some perspective, during the winter in Southern California the water gets down to the mid to high 50′s. Sometimes it’ll pop back up to the low 60′s for a few days. Other days it’ll drop down to the low 50′s.
And since (as you well know) water temps are controlled by currents and ocean swells, even in the summer it can get pretty chilly.
So, with that said, here are my suggestions:
For the winter months, get yourself a good 2/3 fullsuit (most surfing Wetsuits are a different thickness in the arms/legs than in the torso, the logic being that your arms and legs need more flexibility). A 2/3 has 2mm thick arms/legs and 3mm thick torso.
The best fullsuits on the market are widely considered to be the Rip Curl “Bomb” series and the O’Neill “Psycho” series. Xcel, Hotline, Hurley, Quiksilver and Billabong all make good suits, but 80% of the guys in the water here wear Rip Curl or O’Neill.
The Rip Curl “Bomb” series comes in two versions – the “E-Bomb” and the “F-Bomb”. They’re basically identical suits except that the F-Bomb is coated inside the torso section with this fuzzy insulation stuff, which supposedly keeps your mid-section a bit warmer. The E-Bomb doesn’t have the coating and is 100% pure “Elastomax”, which is this super squishy, stretchy neopreme.
Right now I’m using a 2/3 E-Bomb. I find it to be astonishingly warm. However, I also have a 2/3 O’Neill Psycho II. It’s made of an almost identical super stretchy material.
6 months ago I would have suggested the O’Neill over the Rip Curl because they always seemed to be better constructed (the Rip Curls have always been more flexible, but had a tendency to start falling apart after a few months). However, with this new E-Bomb, I stand corrected. It’s just as sturdy as the Psycho II. Maybe even better.
One more factor to consider is the fit. I’ve always found O’Neill wetsuits to be a bit tighter fitting than the Rip Curl. Then again, I’m on the bigger side (at least as far as surfers go). While you want your suit to be as snug and form-fitting as possible, a few wrinkles here and there can sometimes equal a bit of extra free movement.
Again though, I’m nit-picking. Bottom line:
2/3 O’Neill Psycho II
2/3 Rip Curl F-Bomb
You can’t go wrong with either one. If you get cold easily, go up one thickness. OR, just pick up some booties for those really cold mornings.
Check out the Rip Curl store in San Clemente or check out Jack’s Surfboards in Huntington Beach. Both have a MASSIVE selection of suits. Or just order online.
Quick note: If you plan on surfing in the Fall/Spring, your 2/3 fullsuit will still work beautifully and keep you extra warm.
BUT, if you have the extra cash and like the idea of shedding a little rubber when the conditions warm up, get a short-sleeved “comp” (used to stand for “competition wetsuit” back when they inroduced them in the 80′s). The only drawback to the comp is that you can get a nasty farmer’s tan on your arms. Another option is a long-sleeve springsuit or short-arm springsuit.
For the summer, get a thin wetsuit top to wear with your boardshorts. Keeps you warmer than a rashguard and keeps you from having to find someone to smear sunblock on your back.
Probably more information that you wanted, but there’s a LOT to choose from and the conditions can vary quite a bit. But with the links below, I think you’ll be all set.
See you in the water!

cheapest/bare minumum equipment i will need? just need a little help in the right direction. its for abalonie hunting and a little investigative diving around the south east coast of victoria… thanks guys. i know i will have to do a diving course. i just want the bare essential model gear. lets do it… thanks heaps!!!
Mask, snorkel, fins and just a little bit of lead if you need it. That’s it. Most doing what you propose do it Free Diving, not scuba. If you do plan on taking your open water course, the bare minimum you’ll need is actually less.
Just Mask, snorkel and fins. You can rent everything else once you’re certified. Expect to pay about $300-$350 for good quality. $200 for below to average and $60 bucks for a kiddie set at a swimming pool shop.

Triathlon Wetsuits – An Excellent Advantage for the Modern Endurance Athlete by Joel Henderson
Swim, bike, run – Triathlon is the truest test of endurance for the modern athlete. Other singular endurance events exist such as cross-country skiing or even motorsport endurance races, but the essence of Triathlon is to seek a truly level playing field through the combination of three different types of racing. The leveling affect of Triathlon itself does not mean that the individual competitors won’t squeeze every advantage are seek every edge in order to achieve maximum bodily performance. Triathlon wetsuits are one of the areas in which many serious competitors have found an edge, not to mention the advantages to competitors who may be new to the sport.
Wetsuits are one of the few allowable pieces of equipment for the swim portion of a triathlon race, and their use has been a constant source of debate among those within the sport. In the early years when wetsuits were first used by triathletes, they were primarily used for cold water events and the suits used were intended for Scuba Diving or other diving activities. Being that those types of suits were not generally designed for speed swimming, triathlon wetsuits were later invented by those within the community, tailored specifically for open water swimming.
Triathlon wetsuits today are distinguished by more flexible rubber/neoprene around the shoulders, elbows, armpits, and knees, with thicker panels around the torso and upper legs for added buoyancy. A significant level of technological development is incorporated in modern triathlon wetsuit design, seeking ever increasing levels of hydro-dynamic exterior with buoyant paneling within key areas of the suits. Various governing bodies such as USA Triathlon (USAT) and the International Triathlon Union (ITU) set the standard for thickness of materials incorporated into modern suits in order to regulate the level of inherent buoyancy.
As stated, some of the advantages of modern triathlon wetsuits include increased buoyancy and added hydro-dynamics for the individual swimmer. These advantages are often balanced by the time it takes to transition from wetsuit to cycling attire, and often these few seconds can be what decides a race in the end. Many athletes also experience greater amounts of chafing or drag from the use of an improperly fitted wetsuit that may affect performance in the other two events of a given race. Some athletes are able to jumpstart their entrance into triathlon however, since not everyone is born a gifted swimmer. The triathlon wetsuit provides a significant boost to those who are not yet strong at the swim event but still wish to be competitive in the sport.
Given the added buoyancy, hydro-dynamics, and body-heat conservation inherent in modern suits, many within the community see triathlon wetsuits as being contrary to the fundamental nature of the sport. While there are valid arguments on either side of the argument, the fact remains that if it weren’t for the introduction of wetsuits to triathlon, most of the events staged in colder climates would simply be impossible. For better or worse, wetsuits have introduced a whole new segment of society to triathlon, gaining new fans and competitors who could never afford the price of traveling to a warm climate triathlon event.
Triathlon wetsuits are here to stay and the level of technology will only get better with time. There will always be events like Ironman Triathlon that do not allow wetsuits, and these should be the events in which those who object to the use of wetsuits in triathlon should compete. For the rest of us, triathlon wetsuits are a significant advantage for the beginner and experienced triathlete.

Why do some people buy such expensive Scuba gear when all you really need it the basic gear?
I am a casual diver I purchased all of my equipment for under $500.00 I have seen some people new to diving spend upwards of $1500.00
when i see a guy wearing a $2000 suit i think wow that guy got ripped
I too am a certified diver and I know exactly what you mean. It’s funny when you see people new to the sport and they are wearing suits you don’t plan to have for years to come. A lot of the time this equipment is to sophisticated for them and it’s harder to use than the basic package! It’s all about showing off, pretty stilly if you ask me.

Colorado Scuba Diving Equipment For Your Next Big Ocean Adventure by Wayne Hemrick
Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned veteran, you known that having appropriate Colorado scuba diving equipment can be the difference between life and death when you are in an underwater environment. It makes sense to utilize the knowledge and expertise of Denver diving gear center that has experience with diving situations you will encounter at your next diving destination. There are several pieces of denver diving gear that you will need in order to scuba dive effectively and safely.
Regulators are the very basis of your scuba gear. Denver divers learn that the compressed air held in the tanks cannot be inhaled as is, because it can be harmful to the diver. Instead, a regulator is attached to the tank and its job is to control the air pressure. The two parts of a regulator are the first and second stages. The first stage connects to the tank, and the second stage, which contains the mouthpiece, is attached to the first stage with a hose. Several popular brands of regulators, including those made by Aqualung, Atomic, Scubapro and Mares, are available from better Colorado scuba diving equipment merchants.
You will also need a buoyancy compensator as part of your diving equipment. Denver scuba divers know that they need to stay at the proper depth in the water, and in order to do so they need to wear a BC, or buoyancy compensator. These are often constructed as a vest, and weights may be inserted into them. They all have an emergency release mechanism to jettison the weights if necessary.
A final important piece of Denver diving gear that you will need is a computer to finish out your set of divers equipment. Colorado divers value their computers, because a computer helps you to keep track of many kinds of important information when you are underwater, including direction, how your tanks are doing and more. Certain features found on this Boulder Dive Equipment can include a compass, gas-switching capabilities, different operating modes, information on remaining air time and cylinder pressure, ascent rate indicator and altitude adjustment, among others.
If you are uncertain as to which brands of Boulder dive equipment you prefer prior to purchasing your own gear, you may want to try out rental Boulder dive equipment first. To get started, you may want to rent an entire gear package of diving equipment. Denver scuba stores rent these by the day or week. You can also rent individual computers, BCs and regulators to consider as you purchase your own Divers Equipment. Colorado divers will also find wet and dry suits, as well as masks, snorkels and fins. Your local Colorado scuba diving equipment store can answer your questions and help ensure that you find the gear that you want.

Fun Ways to Personalize Baby Bibs by Michael Shaffer
Whether you’re a first-time mom or if you’ve already had a few kids and you are taking care of a young infant in your home now, there are several baby clothing items that you absolutely cannot do without. One example is a baby bib.
Basically, this is a type of garment worn hanging from the neck to the chest, whose purpose is to protect clothing from spillage. Aside from babies, adults and young children also wear bibs when they’re going to the dentist, eating messy foods in restaurants like lobster houses, or undergoing certain medical procedures like lead bibs which are worn when taking an X-ray.
However, we will focus our attentions here on what every mom or mom-to-be needs to know when purchasing baby bibs. Also, what are the fun ways that you can personalize these infant garments? Read on to find out.
Top Tips to Remember when Purchasing Baby Bibs
As a responsible parent, it is your job to ensure that the clothes and other garments that you are putting on your baby are 100% safe, clean and comfortable. What about when it comes to baby bibs? For this, there are a few things that you need to take into consideration:
1. The material that the bibs are made of.
There are several types of materials used in making baby bibs. There’s the traditional bibs made form cotton. Or, you can opt for non-traditional materials like leather, eco-friendly organic cotton or the same material used to make Wetsuits to keep your baby ultra-dry during feeding.
2. The fit of the baby bibs.
What most parents do not know is that there are actually baby bibs which can be used for newborns. Instead of having to clean up the mess after the fact with the use of a burp cloth, you can prevent messy accidents from happening in the first place with the help of newborn baby bibs. Just make sure that it’s the right fit and design for your baby. For older babies, the generic-sized baby bibs will do. The ultimate solution would be to use a Scrunch Bottle Bib for bottle-feeding because it attaches to the bottle instead of the baby and catches spills at the chin. That way you don’t have to worry about a bib fitting too tight and it catches every drop of spill before it gets a chance to get into the neck area.
3. The design and style of the baby bib.
Naturally, you can choose the design, color, print and style of the baby bib depending on the sex of your baby. If you’re buying baby supplies before the birth and you want to be surprised if it’s a boy or a girl, you can choose neutral shades and designs.
Fun Ways to Personalize Baby Bibs
It would be even better if you can find ways to personalize your baby bibs. Aside from using baby bibs for your own kids, you can give out personalized bibs as gifts or party favors for baby showers and similar occasions.
So what are the best ways for you to put a personal stamp on baby bibs? Whether you’re using it yourself or giving it out as a gift, here are a few personalization suggestions that you can keep in mind:
- Purchase baby bibs by the dozen, and decorate them yourself. If you are distributing baby bibs as party favors to other moms or giving it out as a gift for baby showers, what you can do is purchase ready made, plain white baby bibs by the dozen. Depending on the design of your choice, there are plenty of ways that you can decorate the baby bibs. This trend in personalizing baby bibs has become so popular that they have become a staple theme during baby showers.
- Personalize bibs using the fabric stamping technique. Go to a crafts store and purchase a permanent fabric ink which can be used for fabric stamping. Simply follow the instructions on the kit after choosing which design you like.
- Sew on a fabric-embossed design on the baby bibs. If you know how to operate a sewing machine or if you know how to work the needle, you can either embroider letters or designs onto the baby bibs. Another personalization idea is for you to sew on a design that will be embossed on the baby bib. For example, cut out a piece of fabric designed with the shape of a tiger’s head. Add a cotton filling inside the cloth to make the design pop out, and sew it onto to the baby bib.
- Use iron-on transfers for the baby bibs. Iron-on transfers are also available in crafts stores. The instructions on how to iron on the design from the template onto the fabric should be indicated in the kit, so you simply have to follow them.
As compared to a generic gift, nothing beats a personalized baby bib when given as a gift for moms or moms-to-be – especially if you did the personalization yourself.

However, even though scuba diving could be a dangerous h2o activity, most folks still discover pleasure in it. Due to the fact, oxygen is incredibly critical whereby the insufficient oxygen will genuinely eliminate a individual, it truly is crucial to learn the strategies on conserving air. I want to surf this summer. i live about an hour away from the beach so i could practice 1-2 times a week plus the week my family is renting a beach house. I am going to take a lesson or 2 just to learn basics. but is that enough to become a good surfer?
so i can surf i cooler weather should i get a wet suit and i found a surf board i like at it is a longboard and i am aware that you need a longer bard to start out. this is the board but is there anyway i could get a used long board for $200? http://www.realwatersports.com/roxy-8-0-asa?source=googleps
Anyone who works hard enough (and has some natural athletic ability) can become good at surfing. But you seem to be rushing things a little. Obviously, the more time you spend in the water, thebetter you will get. But re-think your starting point. Surfing is great fun, but it is a lot harder than it looks from the beach.
Before you even think about surfing, there are some things you should understand. Surfing is an ocean sport, that should only be practiced by persons who are already competent ocean swimmers. Swimming in a pool is neat, but it’s not ocean swimming, with undertows, rip tides and sometimes BIG waves. I have seen lots of great pool swimmers get rescued. So, my first tip on how to surf is to be at home in the ocean. There are way too many dangerous people in the water now. They are a danger to themselves and other surfers, don’t join their ranks. We don’t know too much about you. Maybe you already have the ocean skills.
Lessons are the best way to start. Lessons can come from a professional instructor, or surfing family members or experienced surfing friends. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don’t want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. The last thing experienced surfers want is for inexperienced people to just grab a board, rush into the surf and get in our way. Lessons shorten the learning curve significantly. And they help keep ignorant, un-prepared kooks out of the water and out of the way of more experienced surfers. .
Everyone learns at a different pace, depending on their athleticism, and their water skills. I started at age 14, but I was already an experienced ocean swimmer. My son started at about 11, but my grandchildren all started developing ocean skills at 4 or 5 and surfing by 9 or 10. If you are fit enough to participate in land base sports, you should have no problem with surfing.
Beginners should take advantage of renting boards and Wetsuits while taking lessons. If it turns out you don’t like surfing, you haven’t wasted a whole lot of money on gear that you are not going to use. When you are ready to buy, don’t waste your time on line, go to a good local surf shop to discuss your size (weight is import, height isn’t), skill level and local wave conditions. After 45 years of surfing, I still get my surfboard buying advice from good local shops in the places where I surf. A surf shop is also the best place to find information on instructors.
Almost ALL instructors will start you off on a longboard. It is just too difficult for most people to learn how to surf on a short board. Most get quickly discouraged, and just quit. Now, over the years, I have seen some young surfers start out on short boards and master them in time. There are no RULES on what kind of board you learn on, but it’s just common sense to learn on a long board.
And, I know there are lots of nice kids who want to share information with you on line. But don’t take the advice from youngsters, who may know even less than you do about surfing, a surfboard is a big investment. I hope you are mature enough to read through the BS that lots of people throw at you on line. So, I would be very careful about who’s advice you take.
I have been surfing since 1966, and it has provided a lifetime of fun for me. If you take the time to learn the right way, it will be a lifetime of fun for you too.Good Luck

Taking the Right Diving Equipment for a Holiday in the Red Sea by Mark Jenner
Most people want to visit the Red Sea at some point in their diving career. Many go back time and time again. For the first time it pays to have some insight of what equipment you should be taking.
When you book a holiday in the Red Sea that involves staying on a boat for the whole week, you can expect to get around 20 dives in during the first 6 days, with the last day resting before your flight home. With up to four dives each day your Scuba Diving equipment takes a lot of wear. As a result it is sensible to thoroughly check all your gear before the trip. If your regulator is due for service make sure that it is done before you go.
Flying to a Red Sea destination such as Sharm El Sheik of Marsa Alam means that you will be traveling with a package tour operator. These use charter flights and therefore you must check in advance how much luggage allowance you will be able to take and the cost of anything over and above this. Many airline carriers do not treat scuba divers the same as, for example golfers, when handing out luggage allowance.
Make sure that you take the biggest piece of hand luggage that is permissible as often a further 10 kilograms can be carried in this way. Delicate or valuable items such as your regulators, torch and instruments are better carried in your hand luggage and this relieves your hold baggage allowance quite considerably.
You must think about what diving gear to pack because the baggage allocation may be tight. Your diving suit is the most important item to get right.
For much of the year the Red Sea provides superb warm water diving allowing many people to get away with 3mm shorties at the height of the season. In the winter, from around November to March, many switch to a dry suit as the temperatures can drop below 20 degrees centigrade.
Most people choose to visit the Red Sea between Spring and Autumn and during this time a 5mm full one piece wet suit will suffice, with perhaps an additional rash vest or over-suit in April or October. People have different tolerances to the cold depending on how much body fat they have, but it is better to wear too much than be too cold!
The chances are that you will get to dive at night on perhaps three or four occasions and a good torch will increase the pleasure of doing this. By law a torch must be carried by each diver as part of their emergency equipment. Instead of taking your heavy lantern a good back up torch with a spare between a buddy pair will be adequate in the clear waters of the Red Sea.
The rest of the equipment is pretty standard, but it pays to take light items wherever possible. A reel and delayed surface marker buoy is essential, but leave your heavy Kent stainless steel work of art at home and take a light plastic finger spool. Taking the spring clips off your fins and putting back the plastic ones can save you around 200 grams in baggage allowance!
Staying on a live-aboard is a very relaxed experience, so fortunately there is no need for any formal attire. Shorts, swimming trunks and a couple of tee shirts are all that are required. If you have at least three pairs of swimming shorts with you this means that there should always be a dry pair waiting for you after a dive. And remember – do not forget your sun tan lotion!
